Hermes Artsworks is my Business Name.I use it for my Astrology of the Moon work as well as for my Performance work. Hermes was the 'winged messenger' of the Greek gods and goddesses. Mercury was the Roman name for Hermes and is also the ruling planet of the Astrological Sign Gemini. As a Gemini Sun sign I feel quite an affinity with Hermes, especially because of his links with both astrology and music. My work as an astrologer and as a performer is about communication and expression, getting my message out. Hermes is the masculine side of me and I call on his Mercurial energies to get my work out into the world. Here are some stories about Hermes. I have taken the following information from The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets by Barbara Walker who in turn refers to the work of GM Graves. According to these sources Hermes was a universal Indo-European god, an Enlightened One, born of the virgin Maia. And, like Buddha, he is said to be the son of the Moon. The crescent on his symbol signifies his mother the Moon. In Greek mythology Hermes was the god of magic, letters, medicine and occult wisdom. Hermes is said to have joined with the Greek goddess Aphrodite and became with her Hermaphroditus. Through this union he learned great wisdom and magical powers and he later became Aphrodite's wise Serpent. Because he was considered to have great feminine wisdom he is credited with the invention of civilised arts that are usually attributed to the Goddess: measuring and weighing, astronomy and astrology, music, divination by knucklebones. The Sufis claimed Hermes as a skilled Practitioner of their Craft. |
